Frequently Asked Questions
How is tower-crane capacity quoted?
As a load chart: maximum lift close to the tower, falling as radius increases. Tip capacity at maximum jib is the number that actually limits most pours and steel lifts. A “12-tonne crane” that is 12 t at 15 m and 2 t at 60 m will not place a tank at the far corner of the pad. Size on the heaviest load at the greatest radius, not on the headline tonne rating.
Do I need a permit to erect a tower crane in Tanzania?
Erection and operation fall under occupational safety regulation and usually require a designed foundation, a competent-person erection plan and, in urban areas, additional local-authority approvals for oversail. Confirm OSHA Tanzania and municipal requirements before mobilising. Oversail of a public road or neighbouring plot is a legal issue, not just a site convenience.
When must a tower crane be climbed or tied?
When free-standing height exceeds the manufacturer’s chart for the in-service wind and the foundation used. Ties to the structure restore capacity as the building rises. Climbing or tying without following the manufacturer procedure is a common and serious failure mode.
